The company known today as Jaeger LeCoultre was founded in 1833 by a 30-year-old watchmaker named Antoine LeCoultre. Though self-taught, LeCoultre introduced several important design innovations to men's watches, including a keyless, push-button system for winding and setting. In 1866, his company became the first to manufacture Swiss watches in the region known as Vallee de Joux. The company was renamed in 1937 as a result of the friendship between LeCoultre's grandson Jacques-David and Edmond Jaeger, the inventor of ultra-thin watch calibers. Today, Jaeger LeCoultre watches are regarded as the standard for technical excellence.
